Class 3 Spring Term 2017 Learning Overview

Class 3 designed their own elfish Christmas cards this year but did they run out of time to get them finished??

For our annual Christmas Fair the children in Class 3 always run their own stalls with  games they have made themselves.

We were really pleased with our finished masks and thought we’d like to share them here. All the masks are on display in Class 3.

This term our topic has been The Egyptians and the children have been working together to make masks of Tutankhamun.

Fair Trade Models

All our models had to carry a set weight over distance.

Archery

We have been improving our skills in Archery over the second half of the spring term. We’ve found it very enjoyable!

Literacy

We have been looking at ‘Stream School’, an animated poem, for our stimulus in poetry and recounts with Mr Chambers in Literacy.
You can see the original poem here  (just scroll to the bottom of the page to view it).
Our work is currently on display at the front of the school and will be uploaded to this site soon.
We have also been looking at advertisements with Mrs Thornton and have been making up our own ‘jingles’. These will also be available here soon.
Watch this space!

We also continue to look at grammar, punctuation and spelling. If you wish to see what we teach your children, a summary is available by reading this document. We follow the Read,Write, Inc scheme for our spelling. More information on this is available here.

We would encourage you to work with your child(ren) on their ‘orange’ words, or age related spellings. Children have a list that they learn and highlight when they are secure in their understanding.

Maths

Children are (largely) taught in their year groups with their peers, following the aims and objectives of the National Curriculum.

You may wish to work alongside your child using some of the following websites:

Mathletics
Education City
Espresso

( a log-in will be required for each of these sites)

Science

We have been looking at the topic ‘forces’ and investigating friction.

Geography

Our topic is trade links, and we are looking at this through ‘Fair Trade’

Music

We continue to have weekly music sessions taught by Mrs Knaggs.

RE

Our key question is ‘why is holding beliefs difficult?’.
