This class is taught by Mrs Brabant, Mrs Chalmers and Mrs Davies Our Reception/ Year 1 class is small and has high adult child ratios. This means we can address each child’s individual needs to help them make good progress. We provide children with opportunities to develop essential skills for learning including; collaboration, creativity, curiosity, imagination, independence, resilience and resourcefulness. We follow the Read Write Inc scheme to teach phonics, reading and spelling. For our topic on Island Lie the children made the most of the ( almost tropical ) good weather and worked together to create their own islands.
We have had a busy start to the new year in Class 1 and our topic of Journeys has given us lots of exciting learning experiences. We have acted out The Gingerbread Man story in groups and made our own puppets. We also investigated why the Gingerbread Man might not have wanted to get wet and how he could have kept himself dry without getting a ride from a greedy fox. Christmas time has arrived in class and the children have been busy making Christmas cakes with Mrs Chalmers. Today Santa’s Workshop took over the role play corner and the children have had great fun being Santa and his elves. They even made their own signs about keeping the workshop tidy and neat.
