
When
The Dark Knight Rises hit movie theaters earlier this year, my ass was in a seat.
How could it not be? I absolutely love
Batman Begins and
The Dark Knight. Add
Memento,
The Prestige, and
Inception into that mix, and Christopher Nolan could do no wrong in my eyes. He is one of the best directors working right now and I'm excited to see what influence he has on
Man of Steal and whatever new project he is working on.
So imagine my surprise when
The Dark Knight Rises didn't altogether live up to my expectations. It would be hard to do so based on those movies I listed above.
The Dark Knight is widely considered to be a
great movie with one of the best acting performances of all time for Heath Ledger. It was a mostly tight-knit movie that left people wanting more as Batman rode off into the darkness, a fugitive after saving Gotham.
Its sequel,
The Dark Knight Rises, was a bit ponderous, a bit poorly paced, and some of the things the characters do just make no rational sense.
